An Extension of
Who I Am

Photography has the power to tell an impactful story.

Over the past 20+ years, I've discovered it is not only my natural way of communicating, but the best way I know how to tell a story. I carry my camera with me everywhere I go. It is a part of me - an extension of my eye, self, and being.

And Why It Matters

For a long time, I resisted photographing commercially for weddings or families. To me, being this kind of photographer was a creative compromise. But, I soon realized that, with these kinds of photography, I could tell a much longer, more personal, and coherent story than the photography I did while working at a newspaper.

Even today, I don't consider myself a "wedding” or ”family” photographer. I'm a photographer at a wedding. I’m a photographer for a family. A craftsman in my field, I love bringing several cameras to a shoot so that I can explore the shoot thoroughly and bring back one-of-a-kind images that you will treasure forever.

More importantly, my first job is to provide exceptional service and hospitality to you and your family.

How I Narrate Your Family Shoot

My passion for photography started when I stole my dad's camera at 15-years old. And, developed into what it is today after attending the Art Institute of Colorado and working as a photojournalist for the Vail Daily.

It's always fascinated me — the different ways in which photography can be used. Whether it is for news, science, surveillance, or art... It is a medium used to tell a story.

But with the variety of photographers and styles to choose from today, it is no wonder you might feel overwhelmed by which photographer is the best one to tell your story.

Let me show you a little about how I will tell your story. Because ultimately, what is most important is feeling confident and comfortable with your decision.

Holistic Approach

On your shoot day, my focus isn't solely on you, it is on you and how the scene is set around you: Your partner, your children, your dog, the personal details, the surrounding landscape. You will have photos that reflect an overall narration of your life, not just one single facet.

Calming Presence

Your photos will come together naturally from the "less is more" direction I provide. And, my naturally calm demeanor and easy-going personality will help you feel calm and relaxed.

“He has a great eye for beautiful pictures that focused on our family while the lovely scenery in the background complimented us without distracting.”

Fly on the Wall

This day is not about photographs, it is about maximizing the time you celebrate with your family. This is why I aim to blend in and remain inconspicuous as your photographer. To stay focused, present, and ready. And, to provide you with the opportunity to enjoy your day with little interruption.

Timely Responses

While working at the Vail Daily, I feel like I earned a masters degree in people. And working quickly. Skills I have since implemented in my photography business so that you can get back to spending your time grabbing a drink with your friends or hiking with your dog... Whatever it is you like to do in your personal time.

“I will never ask another person to photograph our family, Preston’s work is truly incredible and I love all the moments he’s captured for us.”

Why I became a photographer

This photo of my grandparents is from their wedding day on March 4th, 1960. It is the reason I choose to tell stories with my photographs. And, it is why I prefer a candid photo to a staged one.

To me, this photo not only reveals so much about my grandparents and their relationship, it serves as a reminder of how fleeting life is. And that the real value of capturing important moments comes from the heirlooms you are making.

I would be honored for the opportunity to create
these heirlooms for you.

Let's create your heirloom photographs together.
